The use of third person on this page allows the reader to get inside of the head of the character, and it allows the reader to get a wider aspect of what is happening in the story. The surrounding that Peter is in is a realistic typical setting that you would expect from a drinker. It is set in an apartment with no more than a few rooms and little appliances. It also seems that Peter spends little time there. The type of atmosphere created near the end of this page is tension and frustration. James Kelman creates this atmosphere by firstly using the repetition of questions and being inside of the characters head. We feel that Peter has had too much to drink and is starting to question himself and also that he likes to gamble as he has a sporting life. Sporting life is significant as it is a publication for serious gamblers and shows us that he like to gamble.
